What Are Your New Year’s Resolutions?

Happy New Year, everybody! I’m really excited about a fresh start in 2014.

What are your New Year’s Resolutions this year?  Mine are not fancy… but here they are….

Note: I’m not including any work-related goals — just personal stuff. I’ve been working WAY too hard these past 5 years and I need to do more for me this year.

I’m very goal-oriented and ambitious and tend to work too hard… so for me, I need to set more goals that are about pampering myself and doing more to enjoy life.

So here’s my list…

1. Remodel our kitchen and bathrooms.

I’ve been looking forward to doing this for YEARS. For a foodie like me, it’s crazy that I have not done this yet. I can’t wait to finally have the kitchen of my dreams.

And yes, I will chronicle it on the blog. Stay tuned!

2. Go back to Hawaii.

It’s been a few years since Seth and I visited Hawaii. You can read about our trip here. And read about the food in Hawaii here.

Kate wants to go with us this time — and go snorkeling in the ocean.

3. Get married.

Check! We finally did that — just before the New Year. Seth and I finally tied the knot on Dec 30, 2013 in Santa Barbara at their beautiful courthouse.

4. Take more mini-vacations with family.

Short trips we can go on every 4 to 6 weeks. We’ve been working SO HARD the past 5 years… we really need to take more little trips on weekends. Quick trips we can get to within a couple hours’ flight or drive: Palm Springs, Santa Barbara, Santa Ynez (So Cal wine country), Napa/Sonoma (No Cal wine country), San Francisco, San Diego, Mexico, and skiing/snowboarding in Utah and Tahoe. We have a lot of Starwood points so there is no reason not to do it! I also want to do more camping when the weather is nice.

5. Pamper myself.

I’m VERY bad about taking care of myself so I want to do a better job. Things like getting my hair done and nails done every 4-5 weeks, going for spa treatments, take naps, getting my eyebrows waxed and so forth.

I actually have 5 free spa treatments waiting for me at the Beverly Hills SLS Hotel.  I got them almost a year ago and never used them. I know… what’s wrong with me?

See what I mean? I NEED to spend more time on ME! Just need to get it on the schedule and take the time!

6. Build my wardrobe.

I lost almost 40 pounds last year so I am ready to shop! It took about 6 months and it wasn’t easy losing the weight, but it was SO WORTH IT. I’m down from a size 16 to a size 6/8.  After 6 years of wearing sweatpants since Kate was born, I love dressing up again!

Also, I recently interviewed Carol Tuttle of Dressing Your Truth in a podcast. OMG this is the information I’ve been waiting for — totally life-changing!

I finally know how to dress myself and I feel like a million bucks! Thanks, Carol! (If you know about Dressing Your Truth, I’m a Type 4 with a secondary 1. I used to try to dress like a Type 2 or 1 — no wonder I always felt like people were not taking me seriously!)

7. Invest in real estate.

This has been on my bucket list for at least 15 years. I want to start with a condo that I can rent out.

8. Read 100 books.

That’s about 2 books a week. I think reading is the best thing you can do for yourself. I listen to a lot of audiobooks which helps me read more. Reading is not only good for you but it’s one of my very favorite things to do.

9. Spend more time with family.

I want to see my inlaws more, go on more date nights with Seth, and spend more time playing with Kate.

10. Exercise regularly.

Continue going to the gym 3-4 times per week and walking and gardening, plus trying some new things like I’d like to do more surfing, snowboarding, and rollerblading. Ooh! And yoga! More yoga!

11. Get a new car.

I’ve been driving the same car for over 10 years now. I’m ready for something new! I’d really love to get an electric car… we’ll see!

12. Donate more to charity.

I especially love Charity Water and the Farm to Consumer Legal Defense Fund and Heifer International.

Want to Get Inspired for the New Year?

I just recorded 31 hours of interviews with health experts, green energy and natural living advocates, authors, bloggers and sustainable farmers for the New Year, New Year Summit. From Joel Salatin to Dr. Cate Shanahan to Chris Kresser to Robb Wolf. Stories about overcoming illness, how to start homesteading, how to pay down $27K of debt in 6 months… and so much more.

Recording all these interviews was the PERFECT way to start the new year. I am so excited and inspired!
